Buckling Restrained Braces (BRBs)

– Maintenance-free

– Efficient

– Strong

– Cost-effective

Innovative and Efficient

BRBs combine design innovation, world-leading engineering technology and advanced testing methodologies - improving structural performance, as well as saving time and materials.

Strong

The BRB is able to yield under both tension and compression, taking advantage of the full material strength from the core, and the full elastic buckling strength from the restrainer. As a result, the BRB is equally as stiff and strong in compression as it is in tension in both the elastic condition and the yielded condition.

Cost-effective

Using the BRB systems, design engineers are already achieving: Reduced foundation sizes with far smaller connections. Reduced structural weight through smaller columns, beams, and other elements. Reduced materials with far fewer braces and connections. Reduced construction times.

Design Concept

Our BRB expertise is invaluable at the concept stage, helping designers consider and apply the best BRB thinking and practice. Right from the start of the project, our BRB expertise helps you refine the project, mitigating problems and significantly reducing the likelihood of costly changes.

How we help:

  • Feasibility assessments: is BRB an appropriate solution?
  • Identifying and planning for potential design challenges.
  • Potential BRB arrangements and preliminary sizing.

Technical Support

With direct access to our proven BRB expertise and market-leading systems, we can work alongside design engineers to optimise the design’s efficiency. We’ll be on call for any design challenges, helping you anticipate and overcome potential design problems.

How we help:

  • Support and guide design engineers with technical information and best practice.
  • Advanced modelling parameters of BRB properties for 2D and 3D analysis.

Building consent

We’re experts in the consenting process, helping you design BRB systems that conform to rigorous NZ and international standards. We can guide you through the final BRB design and construction drawing process, resulting in a design ready to be submitted for building consent.

How we help:

  • Ensure BRB designs conform to standards.
  • Providing proprietary designs at no risk to consultants.
  • Prequalification testing requirements in accordance with the latest Seismic Provisions.
